[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 15th, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will expand the installation of 34 national grid reference number plates on hiking trails around Geumseongsanseong, Gamagol, and Saminsan.
The national grid reference number is a number assigned to each point in a grid pattern dividing the land and adjacent seas, expressed with a total of 10 characters consisting of letters and numbers. These numbers are continuously installed on major hiking trails with frequent traffic and vulnerability to disaster safety accidents.
Currently, the county has 320 national grid reference numbers installed by Korea Electric Power Corporation, the Forestry Cooperative, and Mudeungsan National Park.
The county decided the installation areas for the national grid reference number plates through prior field surveys in locations lacking location guidance such as Geumseongsanseong, Gamagol, and Saminsan, and plans to complete the installation by June.
In the second half of the year, a comprehensive field survey will be conducted on areas where national grid reference numbers were installed in Damyang-gun from 2018 to 2020, and damaged or lost plates will be repaired.
A county official said, “In case of an emergency, reporting to 119 using the national grid reference number allows for faster assistance,” adding, “We will strive to maintain the national grid reference number plates so that residents can enjoy outdoor activities in a safer environment.”
