[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 15th that on the 4th, it conducted a tabletop drill for a 'hazardous chemical substance leakage accident' through a dual video conference between the provincial government office and Yeongju City disaster situation room, jointly with the Fire Headquarters, National Police Agency, Office of Education, SK Materials, Chemical Disaster Joint Prevention Center, and the 50th Division.
This drill was conducted assuming a situation where hydrofluoric acid leaked due to a fire caused by an electrical short circuit at SK Materials Co., Ltd.'s Yeongju plant in the Gahung Industrial Complex in Yeongju, resulting in casualties.
In particular, central evaluation committee members composed of chemical field experts from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety participated to evaluate the issues and improvements in the tabletop drill, checking the initial response and headquarters operation in the event of a large-scale chemical accident, as well as the on-site public-private cooperation system.
Kim Jung-kwon, Director of the Disaster Safety Office of Gyeongsangbuk-do, pledged, "We will do our best to realize a safe Gyeongbuk where residents are happy by improving the disaster management system, including reflecting improvement measures found during the drill in the action manual."
