Opening of 'Seocho AI College' with Seocho Youth in Collaboration with KAIST

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Cho) is launching the ‘Seocho AI College’ education program in collaboration with KAIST (SW Education Center) to help young people find employment and contribute to job creation.

Starting with an orientation held online in real-time on the 29th of last month, the program will run for six months with KAIST’s specialized curriculum, covering everything from introductory lessons to portfolio completion.

Additionally, 30 final graduates will be offered one-on-one career coaching and internship linkage opportunities.

Considering COVID-19, lectures will be conducted both online and in-person. The program consists of three stages (Introduction ? Advanced Deepening ? Portfolio Project), with top performers selected at each stage to enhance the quality of education. Special lectures by expert professors in each field are prepared for every session.

The first introductory course is conducted online, providing detailed and easy-to-understand Python programming education from A to Z. It is designed as one-on-one classes centered on various case studies, allowing even non-majors to participate.

Moreover, difficult parts of the online lessons are supplemented with weekly in-person mentoring sessions.

The advanced course selects top students from each session and offers lectures on cutting-edge 4th industrial revolution technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and full-stack services. The final portfolio project course focuses on practical, specialized education that applies students’ ideas to real-world scenarios.

Through one-on-one career coaching, the program plans to provide guidance on employment paths and directions, strengthening young people’s competitiveness in the job market.

This year’s college is the second program held since partnering with KAIST in 2019. Compared to previous sessions, offline time has been expanded, the online platform updated, and support measures such as certificates of completion for each session have been enhanced.

A participant, Mr./Ms. Baek ○○, stated, “I hesitated to apply because most other lectures either remain at a basic level or are too advanced for non-majors, but I applied to ‘Seocho AI College’ because it offers learning from basics to advanced levels and practical skills right away.”

They also expressed hope for the program’s continuation, saying, “Even non-majors can greatly benefit in their careers by learning basic programs like Python, so I hope this kind of education continues steadily.”

Meanwhile, Seocho-gu is fully committed to establishing a foundation for young people to prepare for employment through customized education for the 4th industrial revolution era, including ‘Seocho AI College,’ Blockchain College, Robot Coding College, and Game PD Training Course.

Seocho-gu Mayor Eunhee Cho stated, “We will continue the ‘Youth Accompaniment Project’ that allows young people to dream of a bright future by creating an educational ecosystem where they can receive education suited to the changing times.”
