[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced on the 14th that it held a ‘Positive Behavior Support Staff Capacity Building Training’ at the Jeonnam Education Research Information Center.

The training was conducted under the theme ‘Operation and Practice of Community-Centered Positive Behavior Support Programs’ for positive behavior support officers from 22 special education support centers in the province and professional counseling teachers from 8 special schools.

Positive behavior support refers to a support system that helps students with special educational needs develop prosocial behaviors and generalize them in daily life.

The training invited teacher Jeon Bong-cheol from Yangpyeong Office of Education and focused on establishing an on-site support system centered on each regional special education support center for planning and support methods of positive behavior support, as well as the roles of staff and behavior support expert groups.

Kim Yoon-seok, a teacher at Gangjin Special Education Support Center who participated in the training, said, “I clearly understood the actual composition and implementation methods of the support system, which I had only known theoretically.”

Park Kyung-hee, Director of Secondary Education, emphasized, “What is needed in the special education field is not only advanced policies and systems but also the professionalism of special education teachers who can realize them on site. To this end, we will continue to support field-centered training to strengthen the capabilities of special education teachers not only in behavior intervention but also in curriculum, career, and vocational education.”
