Patriot Jeong Wanjin Passes Away... Active in 'Taegukdan' During Japanese Occupation Era Patriotic Activist Jeong Wanjin


[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] Patriotic activist Jeong Wanjin, who was active in the secret organization 'Taegukdan' for the independence movement during the Japanese colonial period, passed away on the 14th at the age of 93.


According to the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, Jeong was born in 1927 in Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk. While attending Daegu Commercial School, he joined and was active in the anti-Japanese student organization 'Taegukdan' for national independence. He was discovered by the Japanese police and imprisoned at Daegu Prison. In recognition of his contributions, the government awarded him the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Patriotic Medal in 1990.


The funeral is being held at Seongsim Funeral Hall, Room 6, Seo-gu, Daejeon, with the funeral service scheduled for 9:30 AM on the 16th. After the service, he will be buried in the 6th burial area for independence activists at the National Daejeon Cemetery.


With Jeong's passing, the number of surviving patriotic activists has decreased to a total of 22, including 19 in Korea and 3 overseas.
