[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam, announced on the 14th that it held the inauguration ceremony for the 3rd class of the ‘2021 Urban Regeneration University Student Supporters’ at Gyeongsang National University to discover creative ideas utilizing local resources for urban regeneration projects, promote resident-led participation, and activate publicity.

The 20 members of the 3rd Urban Regeneration Supporters who attended the inauguration ceremony were selected through an open recruitment held from February 8 to 21.

They are expected to carry out activities such as discovering urban regeneration ideas and promoting projects for about nine months until December this year. On the 8th, a special lecture by experts was also held to enhance understanding of urban regeneration and activate participation.

The Urban Regeneration University Student Supporters program has been operated since 2019 to promote the city’s urban regeneration projects from the perspective of university students, discover creative urban regeneration ideas, and expand university students’ participation in urban regeneration projects while providing a stepping stone for their social advancement.

Additionally, through the operation of the 1st and 2nd classes, four members were hired for the Urban Regeneration New Deal Youth Internship, and three were employed as staff at the Urban Regeneration Support Centers of Jinju City and Geoje City.

The urban regeneration ideas directly discovered by the supporters have achieved concrete results, such as winning various contests.

A representative from the Urban Regeneration Division of Jinju City stated, “Through the operation of the 3rd Urban Regeneration University Student Supporters, we plan to provide a continuous platform for university students’ social participation and nurture them as key players in urban regeneration projects.”

Kim Young, director of the Urban Regeneration Support Center, who hosted the event, said, “Having many university students is Jinju City’s strength, and one of the advantages of urban regeneration is that it helps university students advance into society. I believe that through the supporters’ activities, discovering urban regeneration ideas and promoting urban regeneration projects with various content will contribute to solving local community problems.”
