[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 14th that a transit-oriented youth housing complex will be constructed near Gaebong Station on Subway Line 1, with move-in starting in February 2024.
A 40-year-old aging building was demolished to make way for a residential complex with a total floor area of 34,461㎡, consisting of 3 basement levels and 24 above-ground floors. The complex will house 162 public units and 465 private units. Construction is scheduled to begin in August this year, with tenant recruitment announcements planned for November 2023.
The basement will contain a parking lot; the 1st and 2nd floors above ground will have neighborhood living facilities and resident amenities; the 3rd floor will feature a fitness facility for residents; floors 4 through 24 will be dedicated to youth housing; and a rooftop garden will be created on the roof.
Essential home appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines will be installed inside the units and provided free of charge.
To facilitate the construction of this youth housing, Seoul designated the area of 403-29 Gaebong-dong, Guro-gu, as a transit-oriented youth housing promotion district and approved the district plan, with the official decision scheduled to be announced on the 15th.
