[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] On the 13th, Gimhae City in Gyeongnam conducted a tour of exemplary farms that have successfully reduced livestock odor for hog farmers wishing to participate in the ‘Metropolitan Livestock Odor Improvement National Subsidy Project.’

The odor improvement project is a national subsidy project led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs that shifts support from individual farms to a package support system at a broader level such as villages and livestock complexes, enabling efficient odor management to reduce livestock odor and comprehensively resolve odor complaints.

This field tour was attended by 20 participants including hog farmers located in An-gok-ri, Hallim-myeon and Najon-ri, Saengnim-myeon?areas with frequent odor complaints?as well as representatives from the Korea Pork Producers Association Gimhae Branch and the Bukyung Pig Farming Cooperative.

If selected for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ subsidy project in June, a total project cost of 1.1 billion KRW (approximately 100 million KRW per farm) will be invested to actively promote livestock odor improvement. Among the project costs, 770 million KRW in national funds (including loans) will be secured to minimize the city’s financial burden.

The field tour included lectures on livestock manure treatment methods and odor improvement strategies, as well as on-site inspections of odor prevention facilities at exemplary farms such as slurry liquid fertilizer circulation systems, bio curtains, and odor measurement equipment.

Kim Sang-jin, Director of the Gimhae Agricultural Technology Center, stated, “For next year’s metropolitan livestock odor improvement project to achieve results, the willingness and efforts of participating farms to improve odor are most important,” urging hog farmers to actively participate and strive for odor improvement.
