[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jihwan] Namyang Dairy Products is experiencing a sharp rise following the announcement of research results claiming that its fermented milk product, Bulgari, is effective in suppressing COVID-19.
At 9:42 a.m. on the 14th, Namyang Dairy Products was trading at 447,000 won, up 17.63% (67,000 won) from the previous day. After closing up 8% the day before, the stock surged close to the price limit during the trading session. Namyang Dairy Products Preferred shares recorded 229,000 won, up 28.65%, approaching the upper limit.
The day before, Namyang Dairy Products announced the operation of its Antiviral Immunity Research Institute and the antiviral research results of "Bulgari" at the "Antiviral Food Development Symposium in the COVID-19 Era" held at LW Convention in Jungnim-dong, Seoul. On that day, Park Jongsu, head of Namyang Dairy Products' Antiviral Immunity Research Institute, claimed, "Experimental results on the fermented milk product Bulgari showed that the influenza virus (H1N1), a common cold virus, was eradicated up to 99.999%, and the COVID-19 suppression effect study confirmed a 77.8% reduction effect."
However, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) refuted Namyang Dairy Products' announcement. The KDCA stated, "To verify the preventive or therapeutic effects of a specific food on COVID-19, human subject research must be conducted," and added, "(At this point) it is difficult to expect actual effects."
