[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] Market Kurly announced on the 14th that, in celebration of Black Day, an analysis of sales volume for Chinese cuisine products from January this year to the 11th of this month showed a 117% increase compared to the same period last year.
The Chinese cuisine products sold on Market Kurly include over 90 varieties, ranging from popular dishes such as Jjajang, Jjamppong, and Tangsuyuk to Yuringi, Menbosha, Tantanmen, and Malaxiangguo. In terms of total product sales volume, Jjajangmyeon ranked first, fried rice second, Menbosha third, Jjamppong fourth, and Tangsuyuk fifth.
Products that showed a high sales growth rate compared to last year include Malaxiangguo (1755%), a representative stir-fry dish from Sichuan province in China, and Guobaorou (1492%), a signature dish from the Dongbei region of China. These are unique Chinese menu items that were difficult to enjoy at home. Additionally, Tangsuyuk increased by 356%, Jjajang by 182%, and Jjamppong by 145%, all showing more than double the sales growth.
The Chinese product with the highest sales volume this year is the Jjajangmyeon from Mokran, operated by Chef Lee Yeonbok, a master of Chinese cuisine. Lee Yeonbok’s Mokran Jjajangmyeon is so famous that it is known to require reservations six months in advance to taste. Mokran’s Jjajangmyeon is a convenient meal product where boiled noodles are served with warm sauce, allowing customers to enjoy it comfortably at home, with an average daily sales volume of about 2,100 servings. In March, Market Kurly also launched a 2-serving product of Lee Yeonbok’s Mokran Jjamppong.
Market Kurly is holding a special event called ‘The Tastier Black Day’ until the 15th, offering up to 45% discounts on about 90 products including Jjajang and side dishes. Along with Jjajang’s rival Jjamppong, crispy Tangsuyuk, and other Chinese dishes that can be paired with Jjajang are also being sold at discounted prices.
