[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] The 'Mid-sized Enterprise Digital Innovation Center,' which systematically supports the digital transformation execution of mid-sized enterprises, was established on the 14th within the Korea Federation of Mid-sized Enterprises. The goal is to discover 30 outstanding mid-sized companies in digital transformation by 2024.
At the opening ceremony, Park Jin-gyu, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, government officials from the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Kang Ho-gap, Chairman of the Korea Federation of Mid-sized Enterprises, and representatives from companies such as Duzon Bizon, Huons Global, and Pado attended.
The Innovation Center aims to discover 30 outstanding mid-sized companies in digital transformation by 2024 and will support the entire digital transformation process including 'awareness raising → capacity building → execution support,' serving as a hub for solidarity and cooperation among companies.
At the opening ceremony, Vice Minister Park said, "With the acceleration of non-face-to-face and digitalization of industries due to COVID-19 and increasingly fierce competition among countries worldwide, digital transformation is an essential condition for survival. However, many of our small and mid-sized enterprises still face difficulties in digital innovation. I expect that the newly opened Digital Innovation Center will play a connecting role in closing the digital gap between companies and forming a complete digital value chain through customized digital transformation support according to the demand and capability stages of small and mid-sized enterprises."
At the meeting held on the occasion of the opening ceremony, the government reviewed the implementation status and plans of the 'Innovation-type Strong Small and Mid-sized Enterprise Growth Strategy for Transitioning to a Robust Jar-shaped Economy,' announced last November. The government plans to continuously support the growth of strong small and mid-sized enterprises by actively utilizing available resources, including the 5.3 trillion won government budget in 2021, to realize the transition to a jar-shaped economy at an early stage.
