KATS Develops Testing and Certification Services for Solar Exterior Materials and LED Masks

[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The National Institute of Technology and Standards announced on the 14th that it will implement a project to develop testing and certification services for eight promising new industry products, including building-integrated photovoltaic exterior materials and light-emitting diode (LED) masks.

This project proactively identifies promising fields where demand for testing and certification is expected to increase, develops testing methods and procedures, and issues accredited certificates recognized in 104 countries including the United States, Japan, and Vietnam to companies in related fields.

This year, eight tasks for developing testing and certification services were selected. The selected tasks focus mainly on three areas: carbon neutrality, COVID-19, and enhancement of public convenience and safety.

In the carbon neutrality sector, the selected tasks include ▲safety evaluation of building-integrated photovoltaic exterior materials ▲performance testing of valves for gases such as hydrogen ▲verification of interoperability of intelligent power devices. In the COVID-19 sector, the tasks include ▲safety and performance evaluation of LED lighting with sterilization functions ▲performance evaluation of in vitro diagnostic detection devices. For public convenience and safety, the selected tasks are ▲safety testing procedures and environment establishment for home beauty devices ▲non-destructive testing (X-ray fluorescence spectrometry) service for precious metal alloys ▲fatigue performance testing and certification service for dental implants.

The National Institute of Technology and Standards will also promote the task of 'Survey on the Testing and Certification Industry and Basic Workforce Training' to understand the current status of the testing and certification service industry and to cultivate excellent testing and certification personnel. In particular, 50 students from Meister high schools and specialized high schools will be selected to receive theoretical and practical education related to testing and certification.

The institute will accept project applications from today until May 17 and plans to select the final project operators in June.

Lee Sanghoon, Director of the National Institute of Technology and Standards, said, "By proactively discovering future promising testing and certification services, consumers can purchase products whose quality and safety have been verified, and innovative products can be supported to enter domestic and international markets early. We will continue to develop testing and certification services so that our industry can not only respond timely to changes in the market environment but also lead the market through technological innovation."
