[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Samsung Electronics announced on the 14th that it received the highest award, the 'Sustainability Excellence Award,' at the '2021 ENERGY STAR Award' hosted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The ENERGY STAR Award is given by the U.S. government to approximately 20,000 companies and organizations in the environmental and energy sectors, evaluating their use of ENERGY STAR certification, external promotion, and marketing excellence.

Last year, Samsung Electronics launched 303 energy-efficient models certified with ENERGY STAR in the United States. Among these, 39 models received the ENERGY STAR 'Most Efficient' rating, awarded to products with the highest energy-saving performance. Additionally, last year, Samsung converted 100% of the electricity used at its U.S. operations to renewable energy, obtained ENERGY STAR certification for office buildings, and installed electric vehicle charging stations in employee parking lots, strengthening efforts to reduce energy consumption. Since first receiving the 'Sustainability Excellence Award' in 2013, Samsung has won this award a total of eight times through this year.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency also recognized Samsung Electronics' efforts to improve energy efficiency and prevent environmental pollution by awarding it the 'Corporate Commitment' award, the only one among approximately 200 award-winning companies. The Corporate Commitment award is the highest honor given by evaluating both 'energy management' in corporate energy policies and operations and 'energy-efficient products.' Since the establishment of the ENERGY STAR Award in 1993, Samsung Electronics is the first foreign company to receive this award.

Samsung Electronics actively informs consumers about the importance of energy reduction and provides a feature on its U.S. website product introduction page that allows users to check ENERGY STAR certification status and search only for related products, making it easier to find energy-efficient products. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency stated, "Samsung Electronics has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the ENERGY STAR program," and praised the company for "achieving innovation in product energy efficiency and reducing environmental pollution through strategic energy management."

A Samsung Electronics official said, "Samsung Electronics is strengthening sustainable management to protect the environment through various activities such as carbon reduction, resource circulation, and ecological restoration, and to create an inclusive society through respect for human rights and diversity, education for future generations, and technological innovation."
