Yongsan-gu Produces 1,000 Copies of 2021 Welfare Handbook

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) produced and distributed 1,000 copies of the 2021 Welfare Handbook.

This is to assist private welfare personnel such as visiting community service center (Chatdong) welfare coordinators in identifying households in crisis.

The handbook includes essential information such as ▲know-how for identifying households in crisis ▲precautions during on-site consultations ▲emergency response methods ▲status of major welfare services in the district ▲welfare consultation phone numbers by category, along with a ‘Welfare Consultation Application Form’ to be submitted to Chatdong welfare planners (social welfare public officials).

It is sized at 32mo (13 cm wide, 18 cm tall), making it easy to carry.

The distribution targets are 330 welfare coordinators, 300 honorary social welfare public officials, 300 members of the local community security council, and 70 others.

A district official stated, “There are limits to discovering welfare blind spots with only frontline community service center personnel,” adding, “We will utilize private welfare personnel to find these blind spots and contribute to realizing an inclusive nation.”

Since last month, the district has also organized and operated the ‘Our Neighborhood Care Team.’

The participants are 15 residents who have lived in the area for more than three years. They are assigned 3 to 5 members each in four neighborhoods with high welfare demand (Huam, Yongsan 2-ga, Namyeong, Itaewon 1-dong).

They will patrol the respective areas until December to identify residents in blind spots. In addition to regular home visits, they will also conduct welfare checks via phone calls.

The district supports the Care Team with monthly activity allowances (reimbursement), accident insurance, and welfare handbooks to ensure proper activities.

Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “Welfare projects are an important area of public-private cooperation,” adding, “The district will spare no support so that not only public officials but also private welfare personnel can fully demonstrate their capabilities.”

He also added, “We ask general residents to report neighbors in need to the 120 Dasan Call Center, 129 Health and Welfare Consultation Hotline, or the community service center in their residential jurisdiction.”
