Aso Japan Deputy Prime Minister Says "Fukushima Contaminated Water, No Problem Even If Drunk"

[Asia Economy Reporter Woo Su-yeon] Taro Aso, Japan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, made remarks actively defending the Japanese government's decision to discharge radioactive contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the ocean.

According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun on the 13th, Deputy Prime Minister Aso reportedly said about the contaminated water containing tritium, "Even if you drink that water, nothing serious will happen."

He added, "The concentration of tritium in the contaminated water that Japan will discharge is lower than what China or South Korea are releasing into the sea," and "I think that if the decision to discharge had been made based on scientific evidence, it could have been made sooner."
