On the same day, Prime Minister Chung wrote on his social media service (SNS), "Japan's decision to discharge contaminated water is an irresponsible decision that infringes on the rights of the people of neighboring countries." He emphasized, "The ocean is one," and repeatedly pointed out, "It could lead to a disaster that pollutes not only the sea in front of Japan but also the oceans worldwide." He further warned, "If the Japanese government proceeds with discharging contaminated water as decided, Japan will be committing another historical mistake."
Prime Minister Chung said, "So far, our government has continuously promoted cooperation with the international community regarding the issue of nuclear power plant contaminated water discharge, and has made active efforts to ensure public health and safety, such as banning the import of seafood from areas near Fukushima," emphasizing, "There will be no compromise when it comes to the safety of our people."
He added, "We will strive to block Japan's decision through public discussion via international organizations and cooperation with the international community," and stated, "We urge the transparent disclosure of all information related to the discharge of contaminated water and strongly demand concrete measures to prevent damage to the marine environment."
