[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Junsung) announced on the 13th that it conducted unannounced on-site inspections of self-quarantined individuals to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community, following a sharp increase in self-quarantine cases due to cluster infections at multi-use facilities.
The unannounced inspections are being carried out in three teams formed jointly with the police station until the 16th. To prevent unauthorized departure of self-quarantined individuals, the teams directly visit quarantine locations to focus on the appropriateness of the quarantine sites and compliance with self-quarantine rules.
The county health center issues quarantine notices to new self-quarantined individuals and assigns one dedicated public official to each person. They manage them meticulously through smartphone app installation, twice-daily monitoring, and real-time monitoring using the ‘GIS Integrated Situation System.’
Additionally, the screening clinic operates year-round without holidays to prepare for emergency situations.
According to the inspection results, unauthorized departure without valid reasons will result in immediate legal action under a zero-tolerance policy, including wearing a wrist safety band, prosecution (imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million KRW), exclusion from living support payments, and other support benefits. Foreigners will face deportation measures. The county plans to respond firmly.
Yoon Jeonghee, head of the health center, said, “To maintain a sustainable quarantine system and establish a quarantine system based on autonomy and responsibility, we ask self-quarantined individuals to actively cooperate by adhering to the living guidelines, even though it may be difficult.”
