[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] On the morning of the 13th, Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk, held the '4.13 Heungbu Manse Movement' commemorative ceremony and the 25th Heungbu Manse Festival at Heungbu Manse Park in Buk-myeon.
At the event, including Uljin-gun Governor Jeon Chan-geol and heads of various organizations, a memorial ceremony with flower offerings and incense burning was held to honor the noble spirit of sacrifice of the patriots. Traditional street events and celebratory performances were excluded considering the spread of COVID-19.
Jang Heon-gyeom, chairman of the Heungbu Independence Spirit Preservation Committee, said, "By inheriting the spirit of the Manse Movement that overcame a history of hardship, I hope it becomes an opportunity for future generations to remember the noble sacrifices of the patriots and the preciousness of the homeland."
Jeon Chan-geol, Uljin-gun Governor, stated, "I hope this serves as a chance to once again reflect on the noble cries of the patriots who carried out the Manse Movement for the country's independence and for the growing descendants to remember the value of the homeland and the spirit of the nation."
Meanwhile, the Uljin-gun Heungbu Manse Movement was a Manse Movement that took place on April 13, 1919, in Buk-myeon Heungbu Market, coinciding with the five-day market, where residents and merchants held the largest-scale protest on the East Coast, amid the nationwide spread of the Manse Movement resisting Japan following the March 1 Independence Movement that year.
