[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Kolon Industries FnC division announced on the 13th that its outdoor brand "Kolon Sports" has developed a recycled nylon material called "Kolon Nylon" and will apply it to some products in this spring and summer season.

Kolon, the foundation of Kolon FnC, is an abbreviation of "Korea Nylon" and holds the history of the first nylon synthesis in Korea. Through this "Kolon Nylon," Kolon Sports plans to showcase the company's history while expanding the use of eco-friendly materials.

"Kolon Nylon" was successfully developed after about 10 months of collaboration between Kolon Sports, Kolon Global, and the Italian yarn manufacturer Aquafil. Using Aquafil's recycled nylon "Econyl," it was transformed into a fabric usable by Kolon Sports. Econyl saves 70,000 barrels of crude oil and avoids approximately 65,000 tons of carbon emissions for every 1 ton produced. The amount of Kolon Nylon applied to this season's products is 2.5 tons.

Kolon Sports used "Kolon Nylon" as a material in 10 styles among the spring and summer season products, including vests, outerwear, and pants. In particular, the online-exclusive product "Nile;Rak" is a compound word of Kolon Nylon and anorak, characterized by proposing experimental styles for customers in their 20s and 30s. The anorak was a bestseller product of Kolon Sports in the 1980s, and this time it has been newly reinterpreted in design and applied.

Park Sung-chul, brand manager of Kolon Sports, said, "Kolon Sports will use eco-friendly materials and processes for 50% of all products by 2023. Kolon Nylon is part of this movement. Going forward, Kolon Sports will continuously incorporate the keywords of brand origin and eco-friendliness into its products."
