Gyeongbuk Province Submits 551.5 Billion KRW '1st Supplementary Budget Proposal' to Provincial Council... 5.2% of Original Budget

Gyeongbuk Province Submits 551.5 Billion KRW '1st Supplementary Budget Proposal' to Provincial Council... 5.2% of Original Budget

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 13th that it finalized the scale of the first supplementary budget proposal for 2021 at 551.5 billion KRW on the 12th and submitted it to the provincial council.


The scale of this supplementary budget is 11.2063 trillion KRW, which is an increase of 551.5 billion KRW (5.2%) compared to the original budget of 10.6548 trillion KRW this year. By sector, the general account is 9.8294 trillion KRW (an increase of 497.4 billion KRW, 5.3% ↑ compared to the original), and the special account is 1.3769 trillion KRW (an increase of 54.1 billion KRW, 4.1% ↑ compared to the original).


Looking into the supplementary budget status, first, 96.2 billion KRW will be invested to promote the comprehensive plan for the 'Gyeongbuk-type Livelihood Energy Revival'. By detailed items, 25.9 billion KRW is allocated for supporting small business owners and SMEs, and 34.6 billion KRW is allocated to support farmers and fishermen facing difficulties in agricultural product production and distribution.


For cultural tourism support to revitalize the tourism market, 3.9 billion KRW, for youth and job support including job expansion and youth vitality support, 19.4 billion KRW, and for supporting vulnerable groups suffering from COVID-19, 12.4 billion KRW were each reflected.


In addition, 2 billion KRW for supporting the 102nd National Sports Festival, 9 billion KRW for Pohang earthquake damage relief support, 7.9 billion KRW for free meals in elementary, middle, and high schools, 9 billion KRW for relocating the Agricultural Technology Center, 4.3 billion KRW for expanding fire stations including the East Coast 119 Special Rescue Unit building, and 7.4 billion KRW for reinforcing fire trucks and purchasing equipment were allocated, totaling 37.6 billion KRW to strengthen firefighting response capabilities.


Also, 12.2 billion KRW was allocated for quarantine response to overcome COVID-19 early, and 8.5 billion KRW was reflected in this supplementary budget to support residents affected by COVID-19, including living support for isolated individuals.


Governor Lee Cheol-woo pledged, "Although we cannot solve the depressed local economy and the difficult situation of residents all at once, we will do our best to revive livelihoods by mobilizing all available resources of Gyeongsangbuk-do."


Meanwhile, the first supplementary budget proposal for 2021 submitted by the province is scheduled to be finalized on May 6 after deliberations by the standing committee of the provincial council and the special committee on budget and accounts.
