The Ministry of SMEs and Startups’ ‘Preliminary Startup Package’ support project provides an average of 51 million KRW per person as commercialization funds to facilitate smooth startup commercialization for prospective entrepreneurs, and offers practical startup support such as startup education and mentoring, market linkage, and global expansion.

GIST plans to select a total of 35 candidates in the specialized field without restrictions on age or residence through document screening and presentation evaluation.

In addition, to ensure the successful startup of the selected startup companies, GIST will support startup companies by organizing a dedicated team responsible for startup support, forming an investment organization and securing investment funds, and utilizing on-campus infrastructure for technology transfer, startup space support, and startup clubs.

Prospective entrepreneurs wishing to apply for the Preliminary Startup Package specialized field (Artificial Intelligence) can apply online by selecting ‘Preliminary Startup Package Specialized Field (Artificial Intelligence) Lead Institution - Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology’ on the K-Startup website by 6 p.m. on the 19th.

Eligibility requirements are those who have no startup experience or no business registration (individual or corporation) under the applicant’s name as of the announcement date of the project on the 30th of last month. Those who have experience in business closure can apply only if they plan to start a business (company) producing products and services in a different industry.

Furthermore, if planning to start a business (company) producing products and services in the same industry, applicants must have exceeded 3 years after closure or 2 years after bankruptcy or insolvency to apply.

Jo Byung-kwan, head of the GIST Startup Promotion Center, said, “We will do our best to actively utilize the startup infrastructure possessed by GIST to ensure the success of startups in the artificial intelligence field and to revitalize the local economy.”
