[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] An inmate was caught by correctional authorities for distributing a painkiller with stimulant effects inside a prison.

The Ministry of Justice announced on the 13th that it confirmed inmate A sold medicine without permission inside the prison and received money, and instructed the relevant prison to conduct an investigation.

It was investigated that inmate A, who was serving time at Wonju Prison, sold painkillers prescribed by an external medical facility to other inmates for money.

After being transferred to Jeonju Prison in October last year, inmate A sent threatening letters to inmates at Wonju Prison saying, "The medicine I gave is classified as a narcotic. If you do not pay, I will report that you took the medicine," and was caught by correctional authorities.

The Ministry of Justice is investigating the overall matter, including A's verbal abuse and assault.
