[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Yeosu City in Gyeonggi Province and Wonju City in Gangwon Province discussed ways to promote mutual development regarding major railway issues such as the Metropolitan Area Express Railway GTX.
According to both local governments on the 12th, on the 8th, at Wonju City Hall, Yeosu Mayor Lee Hang-jin, Wonju Mayor Won Chang-mook, and officials from related departments attended a meeting to address railway issues in response to changing conditions around the Yeosu-Wonju double-track railway feasibility, Wolgot-Pangyo Line, Suseo-Gwangju Line, Jungbu Inland Line, and Jungang Line.
Both organizations anticipated that the extension of the Metropolitan Area Express Railway GTX would act as a catalyst for mutual development through the establishment of railway networks between the metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas.
They also agreed on the necessity to amend the Special Act on Metropolitan Area Wide Transportation Management to connect the two regions via the metropolitan wide-area railway network.
