BTS "Dynamite" Music Video Surpasses 1 Billion Views, Third in Group's History

[Asia Economy, reporter Choi Donghyun] The music video for "Dynamite" by the group BTS has surpassed 1 billion views.

According to Big Hit Entertainment on April 12, the YouTube views for BTS's digital single "Dynamite" exceeded 1 billion at around 5:46 p.m. that day. With this, "Dynamite" has become the third BTS music video to reach 1 billion views, following "DNA" with over 1.2 billion views and "Boy With Luv" with 1.1 billion views. After hitting 900 million views on March 10, the video added another 100 million views in just about a month, demonstrating its explosive popularity.

When the "Dynamite" music video was released, it set a new record for the most concurrent viewers for a YouTube Premiered music video, surpassing 3 million viewers at once. It was also officially recognized by Guinness World Records for three achievements: "Most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours," "Most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours," and "Most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group."

"Dynamite" is a bright and upbeat disco pop track, described by BTS as a "healing song" meant to deliver a message of hope during the difficult times of COVID-19. The song topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart three times in total, including two consecutive weeks at number one. Even nearly eight months after its release, "Dynamite" remains on the Hot 100 chart. As of April 6 (local time), it had stayed on the chart for 32 consecutive weeks, breaking the previous record for the longest-charting Korean artist on the Hot 100, which was 31 weeks set by Psy's global hit "Gangnam Style."

Meanwhile, including "Dynamite," BTS now has a total of 31 music videos with over 100 million views. These include "DNA" with 1.2 billion views, "Boy With Luv" with 1.1 billion views, "Dynamite" with 1 billion views, "FAKE LOVE" and the "MIC Drop" remix with 900 million views each, "IDOL" with 800 million views, "Blood Sweat & Tears" with 700 million views, and "FIRE" and "Dope" with 600 million views each.
