Ulsan City is promoting the ‘2021 Children's Oral Health Fluoride Application Project’ targeting 2,915 students in third grade and below at 10 schools, including Daun Elementary School.

The project period is from April to December, and dentists appointed by the Industry-Academic Cooperation Group of Chunhae Health University, the entrusted institution, will provide guidance, while dental hygienists visit schools to apply fluoride free of charge.

The project will proceed after scheduling adjustments based on the local COVID-19 infection trends and school quarantine status, and with parental consent.

The ‘Children's Fluoride Application Project’ is a simple procedure that applies a high-concentration fluoride compound directly to the tooth surface twice a year, in the first and second halves, for lower-grade elementary students vulnerable to dental caries, forming a protective layer that suppresses bacteria. This procedure is known to have about a 40% caries prevention effect.

An official from Ulsan City said, “Through continuous oral health projects such as children's fluoride application, we will help establish lifelong oral health care habits.”

Since 2014 until 2020, Ulsan City has invested a total of 280 million KRW in the project, promoting the ‘Children's Fluoride Application Project’ to 26,397 students at 82 elementary schools.
