Daesang Launches Customized Kimchi Ordering Platform 'Jongga Jip Kimchi Workshop'


[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] Daesang announced on the 12th that it will launch a customized kimchi order online platform called 'Jongga Jip Kimchi Workshop.'


Jongga Jip Kimchi Workshop was planned to actively target the increased demand for online food purchases due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. According to Statistics Korea, last year’s online food market transaction amount recorded 43.4 trillion KRW, a 62.4% increase compared to the same period the previous year (26.7 trillion KRW). Excluding the 17.4 trillion KRW in food service transactions, purchases of agricultural, livestock, and fishery products reached 6.1 trillion KRW, and food and beverage purchases amounted to 19.9 trillion KRW.


Jongga Jip Kimchi Workshop is a new type of kimchi order online platform that manufactures and ships kimchi on the same day based on the consumer’s desired taste and quantity. Especially, small orders ranging from 300g, suitable for a single meal, up to 1kg are possible, making it easy to enjoy various types of kimchi without burden. It is currently available through Daesang’s official online mall, Jeongwon e-Shop.


Since 2017, Jongga Jip has operated the ‘My Own Kimchi’ service on Jeongwon e-Shop, allowing consumers to order kimchi by selecting preferred jeotgal (fermented seafood), salt, and red pepper powder according to their segmented tastes. With the launch of Jongga Jip Kimchi Workshop, the range of kimchi has expanded to include whole cabbage kimchi selectable by jeotgal flavor, spiciness, and fermentation level, as well as fresh kimchi and specialty kimchi made with seasonal vegetables. Because the kimchi is made immediately upon online order, it also incorporates the advantages of the ‘Jongga Jip Instant Counter’ at large supermarkets, where customers could purchase fresh kimchi instantly. Daesang plans to provide a wider variety of fresh kimchi flavors through Jongga Jip Kimchi Workshop.


Currently, products available at Jongga Jip Kimchi Workshop include five types of whole cabbage kimchi (Taeyangcho Whole Cabbage Kimchi, Yangcho Jeonrado Whole Cabbage Kimchi, Spicy Whole Cabbage Kimchi, Freshly Pickled Crisp Kimchi, Well-fermented Crunchy Kimchi), three types of specialty kimchi (Bossam Kimchi, Young Summer Radish and Young Cabbage Kimchi, Chonggak Kimchi), and two types of fresh kimchi (Gogaengi Fresh Kimchi, ▲Whole Young Cabbage Fresh Kimchi). Seasonal limited-edition kimchi made with carefully selected high-quality ingredients and optimized recipes will also be introduced.


All processes at Jongga Jip Kimchi Workshop are managed by Jongga Jip’s kimchi expert ‘Neulsom.’ ‘Neulsom’ means ‘always skillful’ and refers to Jongga Jip’s experienced kimchi masters. With the expertise and know-how of ‘Neulsom,’ Jongga Jip has grown into Korea’s representative kimchi brand, and ‘Neulsom’ participates in the manufacturing process of all products at Jongga Jip Kimchi Workshop.
