Wonju City Imposes Up to 130,000 KRW Fine for Parking and Stopping Violations in Children's Protection Zones

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Wonju City, Gangwon Province, will significantly increase the fines for parking and stopping violations in school zones from twice the current general road rate to three times starting from the 11th of next month.

On the 12th, the city stated, "This is in accordance with the revised Road Traffic Act Enforcement Decree, which was amended last November to strengthen the prevention of children's traffic accidents."

If a vehicle violates parking or stopping rules in a school zone, the fine for passenger cars (including cargo vehicles under 4 tons) will increase from the current 80,000 KRW to 120,000 KRW, and for buses (including cargo vehicles over 4 tons, special vehicles, and construction machinery), the fine will rise from 90,000 KRW to 130,000 KRW.

Before implementing the new fine standards, the city plans to promote awareness among citizens through banner installations and distribution of informational materials.
