Songpa Senior Club and Hanjin Taekbae Bangi 2 Delivery Point's 'Gagahoho Delivery' Project Successfully Operating for 8 Years... Contributing to Senior Job Creation and Improving Delivery Workers' Working Conditions
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) announced that the 'Songpa-gu Gagahoho Delivery' project, which is being promoted to expand social participation for elderly people with working ability, continues to receive a warm response.
Recently, as more apartment complexes have prohibited delivery vehicles from entering the premises, interest in the 'Gagahoho Delivery' project has increased even more.
'Gagahoho Delivery (Apartment Delivery)' is a project operated since 2014 through cooperation between the public and private sectors via the Songpa Senior Club, an organization dedicated to elderly employment. Delivery companies place parcels at delivery hubs secured within apartment complexes, and elderly participants deliver them to each household.
In particular, the Songpa Senior Club and Hanjin Delivery Bangi 2 Branch sign an annual business agreement to create jobs for the elderly. Currently, a total of 21 elderly individuals participate in the Gagahoho Delivery project, working diligently with great effort.
The participating seniors are busy sorting and delivering about 200 parcels delivered daily within each apartment complex. One senior involved in Gagahoho Delivery said, “We are still fully capable of working, but there are not many places for elderly people to work. This project supplements the company's insufficient workforce and provides jobs for seniors who want to work, so it is such a great program.”
Also, Kim Hyun-jin, manager of Hanjin Delivery Bangi 2 Branch, said, “Through this project with the elderly, delivery times have been significantly reduced, and it greatly helps reduce the workload of delivery drivers. We want to continue working together with the seniors in job creation.”
Local residents where Gagahoho Delivery is conducted said, “We are always grateful that the elderly deliver parcels quickly and accurately. They seem to be more responsible and hardworking than young people these days.”
Encouraged by the positive response from local residents, the participating seniors carry out their activities with pride and responsibility.
Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “The Gagahoho Delivery project is very meaningful in that it provides opportunities for social participation for the elderly. We will actively strive to discover and expand support for public-private cooperative jobs that support the elderly’s later life and promote the public good in the local community.”
