[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] A caddie who caused a severe injury, including paralysis, by causing a golfer to fall from the back seat while driving a golf cart around a curved road without reducing speed received a reduced sentence in the appellate court.
The Chuncheon District Court Criminal Division 2 (Chief Judge Jin Won-du) overturned the original sentence of 8 months imprisonment for A (38), who was tried on charges of injury under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling, and sentenced him to 8 months imprisonment with a 2-year probation on the 11th.
On April 21, 2019, A was driving a cart carrying four golfers at a golf course in the province, driving at about 14 km/h down a right-curving downhill road.
While turning right without reducing the speed of the golf cart, B (52), who was in the back seat, lost balance and fell to the left, hitting his head on the asphalt ground.
As a result of this accident, B suffered severe injuries including paralysis and cognitive impairment caused by traumatic intracerebral hemorrhage, with an unknown treatment period.
The golf cart driven by A had no seat belts, and there were no doors or chains on either side of the cart.
