Seung-ro Lee, Seongbuk District Mayor, Unites in the 'National Low Birthrate Overcoming Po(4)ham Relay Challenge'... Eom Tae-jun, Icheon Mayor, Nominated and Joins on the 6th
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 6th, Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, participated in the participatory campaign ‘National Overcoming Low Birthrate 4-in-1 Relay Challenge.’
The ‘National Overcoming Low Birthrate 4-in-1 Relay Challenge’ started in February in Chungcheongnam-do with the aim of overcoming the national crisis caused by low birthrate through solidarity and cooperation, encouraging all citizens to join in creating a ‘Korea where we work together, care together, protect together, and are happy together.’
Mayor Lee Seung-ro, who joined the challenge upon the nomination of Eom Tae-jun, Mayor of Icheon, said, “Currently facing a serious population crisis due to low birthrate and aging, overcoming low birthrate requires both appropriate policies and public participation,” adding, “Seongbuk-gu is supplying customized public rental housing to reduce the burden on newlyweds who postpone childbirth due to housing costs, and we will do our best to create a city where all generations are happy.”
Meanwhile, Seongbuk-gu opened three new Our Neighborhood Care Centers, after-school care facilities for elementary students, in early 2021, operating a total of five centers, and plans to open six more within the year. The district is actively working to create a Seongbuk that is good for having and raising children by alleviating childcare burdens at home and establishing a dense all-day care system.
