[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in will convene a special COVID-19 response quarantine inspection meeting on the 12th and an expanded economic ministers' meeting on the 15th, taking steps to manage both quarantine and the economy.
Kang Min-seok, spokesperson for the Blue House, stated in a written briefing on the 10th, "President Moon will handle two urgent schedules next week."
On the 12th, President Moon will preside over the 'Special COVID-19 Response Quarantine Inspection Meeting' at the Blue House to review COVID-19 response strategies, including vaccine supply plans. Attendees include Jeon Hae-cheol, Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety; Kwon Deok-cheol, Minister of Health and Welfare; Koo Yoon-chul, Director of the Office for Government Policy Coordination; Kim Gang-rip, Commissioner of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety; and Jung Eun-kyung, Director of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.
Spokesperson Kang said, "The special quarantine inspection meeting was urgently convened by President Moon to establish a comprehensive COVID-19 response system and manage the situation stably."
Additionally, on the 15th, an expanded economic ministers' meeting will be convened to review the economic situation and the status of key strategic industries and to discuss response strategies. Attendees include Hong Nam-ki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance; Sung Yun-mo, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy; Lee Jae-gap, Minister of Employment and Labor; Moon Sung-hyuk, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries; and Kwon Chil-seung, Minister of SMEs and Startups.
Spokesperson Kang added, "On the 8th, President Moon announced to the public his direction for state affairs, pledging to focus on overcoming COVID-19, economic recovery and stabilization of people's livelihoods, and the eradication of real estate corruption. Convening the special quarantine inspection meeting and the expanded economic ministers' meeting consecutively next week to personally oversee these matters is the first step to addressing national issues as promised to the people."
He continued, "President Moon will approach state affairs with a humbler attitude and a greater sense of responsibility to realize the urgent demands of the people."
