[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] The Korea Communications Commission announced on the 11th that it will accept applications for personal location information business permits from February 4 to 11, in accordance with the '2021 Personal Location Information Business Permit Review Plan' announced earlier this year.
The personal location information business refers to a business that collects location information of specific individuals and provides it to location-based service providers.
Corporations wishing to apply for a permit or approval can apply through the electronic civil service website (http://emsit.go.kr). Business plans can be submitted by visiting the KCC Internet User Policy Division or sent by mail.
Applications for approval regarding the transfer of personal location information businesses or mergers and splits of corporations operating personal location information businesses can be submitted at any time without a separate reception period.
After receiving the permit applications, the KCC plans to comprehensively review the validity of business plans, funding plans, location information system construction, expansion, deployment plans, related facility investment plans, and technical and managerial protection measures for location information protection through a review committee composed of external experts.
To facilitate corporations wishing to obtain permits, the KCC will hold a briefing session on how to prepare permit plans. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the briefing will be conducted online on the 20th using the On-Nara PC video conference system (http://vc.on-nara.go.kr).
