Promotion as Part of Jeonnam-style New Dal Youth Job Project
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Seunghyun] Mokpo City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 9th that it will invest a total project cost of 3 billion KRW to promote the ‘Jeonnam-type New Deal Youth Job Project’ to encourage youth employment and regional settlement.
This project is part of the Jeonnam Province Blue Economy 6 Major Projects, a Ministry of the Interior and Safety public contest project promoted as part of the Korean New Deal project led by the entire government to leap from a follower economy to a leading economy.
It aims to expand digital infrastructure such as non-face-to-face industries, artificial intelligence, and big data from the existing manufacturing base, respond to the post-COVID-19 era, create jobs in line with the 4th Industrial Revolution, and help young professionals settle in the region.
Four implementing organizations, including the Jeonnam Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency designated by Jeollanam-do, will screen and select companies and select youth, who are scheduled to be placed and start working at companies in April. Participating youth will receive a monthly salary of 2.3 million KRW (including allowances) and professional workforce job training, while companies will bear 10% of the labor cost.
The project targets unemployed youth aged 18 to 39 who must maintain their resident registration in Mokpo City during the project period. Depending on the project type, a work period of 2 years or 1 year is guaranteed to secure expertise, and after the work period ends, the goal is to convert to regular employment.
A city official said, “We expect the Jeonnam-type New Deal Youth Job Project to serve as a catalyst for creating quality youth jobs by strengthening job competencies in the non-face-to-face and digital economy sectors in response to the post-COVID-19 era and the 4th Industrial Revolution.”
