[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] India has recorded the highest number of new COVID-19 cases for the third consecutive day.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India on the 9th, the daily new confirmed cases as of the morning were counted at 131,968.

India has thus broken its record for the highest number of new cases for three consecutive days, following 115,736 on the 7th and 126,789 on the 8th.

India's cumulative confirmed cases stand at 13,060,542 as of this day. At this rate, it is expected to soon surpass Brazil and return to second place in cumulative confirmed cases.

The number of new deaths in India also increased to 780 on this day. The cumulative death toll is 167,642.
