[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) announced on the 9th that the first rice transplanting of the year has begun in the paddy fields of Seoho-ri, Cheonggye-myeon.

The transplanted variety is Jinok rice, an ultra-early maturing variety, which will undergo a short growing period of about 110 days after transplanting, with the first new rice harvest scheduled for late July.

Additionally, after the harvest, a second crop of early maturing rice will be planted in early August and harvested in late October as part of a double-cropping cultivation demonstration.

The first transplanted variety, ‘Jinok,’ is a high-quality early maturing variety known for its excellent taste, used for table rice. It was sown on the 2nd of last month and transplanted after a 38-day seedling period.

On this day, Governor Kim San visited the transplanting site to encourage farmers and officials, personally planting rice seedlings using a rice transplanter.

Farmer Jeong Jung-seok, who practices double-cropping rice cultivation, said, “This helps to spread out the busy farming work in June and reduce typhoon and flooding damage, which frequently occur in September. If the results are good, we plan to expand the cultivation area next year.”

Governor Kim San stated, “Double-cropping rice cultivation adapting to climate change is a good cultivation method that increases rice production and paddy field utilization. I hope this year’s farming goes well and farm incomes increase.”
