Gyeongbuk Province Attracts 'Gaba Rice' Food Manufacturing Plant to Sangju City... 30 Billion KRW Investment

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Gyeongbuk Province and Sangju City will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for investment to establish a food manufacturing factory at 2:30 PM on the 9th in the main conference room of Sangju City Hall, attended by Governor Lee Cheol-woo, Mayor Kang Young-seok of Sangju, and CEO Yoo Jong-min of Gaba Rice Co., Ltd.

According to this agreement, Gaba Rice Co., Ltd. plans to invest 30 billion KRW over four years until 2025 to establish a food manufacturing factory using GABA rice.

This is expected to create 180 new jobs, greatly contributing to revitalizing the local economy and job creation. 'GABA rice' is a functional rice that promotes brain metabolism and is effective in enhancing concentration.

Since its establishment in 2016, Gaba Rice has continuously conducted research and development, holding numerous intellectual property rights related to manufacturing technology using GABA rice, including 2 patents and 4 trademark registrations. It was also selected as a Frontier Venture Company operated by the Korea Technology Finance Corporation.

The reason Gaba Rice, which uses rice as its main raw material, decided to invest in Sangju City is due to the region's characteristics, which ranks first in the province with an annual rice production of 62,576 tons (13%), as well as the availability of affordable land and excellent transportation accessibility, explained Gyeongbuk Province.

In the future, Gaba Rice is expected to greatly contribute to increasing local farmers' income and enhancing the brand image of the agricultural city by manufacturing convenience food products such as tteokbokki ingredients, rice noodles, gamasotbap scorched rice, and five-grain scorched rice using agricultural products produced in Sangju City.

Governor Lee Cheol-woo emphasized, "Through collaboration with research institutions, we will develop a stay-type region where production and consumption occur together through various industrializations utilizing rural resources."
