Marvel Comics Movies Moving to Disney Plus to Fill the Gap
Netflix, the real-time video service (OTT), will exclusively stream Sony Pictures movies for five years.
Major US media outlets such as The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal reported on the 8th (local time) that Netflix and Sony Pictures have signed a movie streaming contract with this content.
According to the agreement, Sony Pictures movies will be released in theaters first starting next year, then move to Netflix. This also includes Netflix-exclusive movies that are not released in theaters. Two to three such movies will be produced separately each year.
Sony Pictures movies to be introduced through Netflix include "Bullet Train" starring Brad Pitt and Lady Gaga, as well as sequels to "Uncharted," "Jumanji," and "Bad Guys." Marvel Comics series such as "Spider-Man," "Venom," and "Morbius" will also be broadcast in the same way.
Sony Pictures holds the rights to various characters appearing in the "Spider-Man" comics. Netflix will fill the gap left by Marvel Comics movies that moved to Disney Plus.
