Netflix Signs 5-Year Exclusive Deal with Sony Pictures

[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Netflix, the world's largest video streaming company, has signed a five-year exclusive broadcasting contract with Hollywood's major production company Sony Pictures. Accordingly, all movies produced and distributed by Sony Pictures will be available exclusively on Netflix, except in theaters.
According to Bloomberg on the 8th (local time), Netflix announced that it had signed a movie streaming contract with Sony Pictures with these terms. Starting next year, Netflix has secured the exclusive rights to stream Sony Pictures' movies on its platform after their theatrical release.
Additionally, Sony Pictures will produce 2 to 3 Netflix-exclusive movies annually that will not be released in theaters. Among the Sony Pictures movies to be streamed on Netflix are the 'Spider-Man,' 'Venom,' and 'Morbius' series, drawing significant attention.
Originally, Spider-Man is part of the 'Avengers' series, with most Marvel series produced by Marvel Studios, a Disney subsidiary, and streamed on Disney's platform, Disney+.
However, before Marvel Comics was acquired by Disney, during a financially difficult period, the rights to various hero characters were sold off in pieces, and the rights to the characters appearing in Spider-Man comics are currently held by Sony Pictures.
Through this contract, Netflix will also stream Sony Pictures' upcoming anticipated hits such as the action movie 'Bullet Train' starring Brad Pitt and Lady Gaga, movies based on popular video games like 'Uncharted,' as well as sequels to 'Jumanji' and 'Bad Boys.'
