[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] China is conducting a large-scale promotion of its achievements in responding to the COVID-19 crisis on the first anniversary of the lifting of the Wuhan lockdown.

On the 8th, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that, together with the Hubei provincial government where Wuhan is located, it will hold an event on the 12th at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the theme "Heroic Hubei: Enduring the Pain of Fire and Being Reborn" to promote the achievements in overcoming COVID-19. The event is expected to be attended by Wang Yi, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of diplomacy, Ying Yong, Party Secretary of Hubei Province, Wang Xiaodong, Governor of Hubei, and Wang Zhonglin, Party Secretary of Wuhan City.

Zhao Lijian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a regular briefing that "Wuhan's economy has revived and regained vitality in one year," adding, "The lifting of Wuhan's lockdown and economic recovery has instilled confidence in epidemic prevention worldwide."

He added that the promotional event will introduce not only the epidemic prevention achievements of Hubei and Wuhan but also "the aspects of economic recovery after COVID-19."

Wuhan, where COVID-19 first emerged, had its city lockdown lifted on April 8, 2020, one year ago. Wuhan was locked down for 76 days starting January 23 last year due to the spread of COVID-19.

The Global Times reported on the 8th that one year after the lifting of the lockdown, Wuhan's food service and tourism industries are rapidly recovering, and employment conditions are also improving.
