[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The National Information Society Agency (NIA) of Korea is partnering with Hyundai Motor Group to establish a system for utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) training data in the automotive sector.

On the 8th, Hyundai Motor Group announced that it signed an 'AI Training Data Sharing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)' with NIA President Yong-sik Moon and Hyundai Motor Group Vice Chairman Dong-wook Kim in attendance.

This agreement aims to strengthen the global competitiveness of domestic automotive companies and create an ecosystem of mutual cooperation between large and small-to-medium enterprises by ensuring the proper use and governance of the 'AI training data' developed by NIA.

NIA, which is conducting large-scale projects to build AI training data in areas such as autonomous driving, traffic, and voice, will provide Hyundai Motor Group with collected data including natural language, road and lane information, and human behavior videos. Hyundai Motor Group plans to enhance voice recognition technology using the provided natural language data and apply road and lane data to autonomous driving technology, advancing AI-based future mobility technologies in various fields such as autonomous driving, infotainment, and robotics. Additionally, both parties will collaborate to improve the quality of AI training data and develop AI services in the automotive sector.

Yong-sik Moon, President of NIA, said, "I hope this agreement with Hyundai Motor Group will serve as a catalyst for the utilization and dissemination of training data among domestic companies. As the vehicle software technology of domestic automotive companies continues to make remarkable progress, we will do our best to create a precedent for public-private win-win cooperation through continuous discovery of high-quality training data, quality enhancement, and active support."

Dong-wook Kim, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, also stated, "Through this MOU, we will advance AI technology to accelerate our transformation into a smart mobility solutions company and develop new mobility experiences and better mobility services for customers."
