[Asia Economy Reporter Su-yeon Woo] Doosan Infracore achieved record-breaking sales performance worldwide in March, including in Korea, China, and the United States.
Doosan Infracore announced on the 8th that it set an all-time monthly record for excavator sales in March in the Korean, Chinese, and North American markets. It also achieved record-breaking strong performance in Europe and emerging markets.
A Doosan Infracore official explained that the significant increase in demand for construction equipment was due to economic stimulus measures implemented by various countries to overcome COVID-19, increased mining development driven by rising raw material prices, and the coincidence of the peak season throughout the year. Additionally, various marketing activities focused on technology and quality were effective.
In the domestic market, Doosan Infracore sold a total of 650 excavators last month, achieving the highest monthly sales since its founding. The previous record was 614 units in January this year, so the record was broken within two months. In particular, the launch of new models played a major role in increasing sales.
Doosan Infracore introduced 13 types of the 2021 models with improved safety, convenience, and performance, including the industry's first installation of Chimsle (an auxiliary brake light applied to the upper center rear of construction machinery) LED on the rear of excavators, gaining great popularity among customers from the beginning of the year. Especially, it sold 21 large excavators over 38 tons, setting the highest monthly sales volume for large models. Market-tailored special equipment such as 53-ton demolition equipment and 38-ton telescopic dipper also received strong responses.
In China, a total of 4,591 excavators were sold last month, setting the highest monthly sales record since entering the Chinese market in 1994. The previous highest record was 4,273 units in March 2010. Among multinational corporations (MNCs) operating in China, Doosan Infracore surpassed the U.S. Caterpillar to achieve the highest sales volume for March, following February.
The North American market also set its own record by selling a total of 177 construction equipment units last month. This is the highest monthly sales since the transfer of business from Bobcat in 2018 under the Doosan Infracore North America (DINA) system. The excavator sales alone were the highest since DINA's launch.
Doosan Infracore's North American branch has steadily developed dealers and discovered new customers despite the COVID-19 situation last year. Recently, with the U.S. government's economic stimulus measures and expectations for large-scale infrastructure investments, construction equipment demand has expanded, leading to increased sales.
Doosan Infracore's sales growth trend continued in Europe and emerging markets as well. In the European market, a total of 484 construction equipment units were sold in March, marking the second-highest sales volume since the establishment of Doosan Infracore Europe (DIEU) in 2018. Additionally, in emerging markets such as Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, the company has secured large-scale construction equipment supply contracts for over 220 units since the beginning of the year, showing strong performance. Last year, it secured many large customers requiring substantial construction equipment, such as major construction companies, mines, and large farms, raising expectations for additional orders in the future.
A Doosan Infracore official said, "The efforts put into launching region-tailored products, developing dealers, and securing large customers are bearing fruit," adding, "Based on prepared competitiveness under economic stimulus policies worldwide, we expect to secure market opportunities to the fullest and smoothly achieve the management goals set at the beginning of the year."
