New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced at a press conference held in Auckland on the 7th (local time), "We have decided to apply entry restrictions on travelers from India from the 11th to the 28th."
Prime Minister Ardern added, "This measure was implemented as it was confirmed that new COVID-19 cases from India have increased." This measure applies to all travelers who have stayed in India for more than two weeks.
India continues to report the highest number of daily new COVID-19 cases in the world, breaking records repeatedly.
According to the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the number of daily new COVID-19 cases (aggregated over approximately 24 hours from the previous day) was 115,736 as of the morning of the previous day.
This surpassed the previous record of 103,558 new cases set on the 5th, breaking the record again within two days.
India's cumulative number of confirmed cases is 12.8 million, ranking third in the world after the United States (31.56 million) and Brazil (13.1 million).
