Huawei Unveils Autonomous Electric Vehicle

Chinese Media Showcases Cutting-Edge Technology Surpassing Tesla and Apple Car

[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] Chinese telecommunications equipment company Huawei will showcase an electric vehicle equipped with autonomous driving technology at the Shanghai Motor Show. Chinese media have evaluated that Huawei's autonomous electric vehicle is a mass production model and will compete with American Tesla electric cars and Apple autonomous vehicles.

Global Times reported on the 8th that Huawei is scheduled to unveil the autonomous electric vehicle 'Arcfox HBT,' jointly developed with Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC), at the Shanghai Motor Show.

This vehicle is equipped with three 96-beam LiDARs, 12 cameras, and 13 ultrasonic radars. Additionally, it features a Huawei chip with a computing power of 352 Tops (tera operations per second), enabling Level 3 autonomous driving.

Global Times stated that Huawei has been engaged in automotive technology research since 2013 and has collaborated with global automakers focusing on smart driving computing platforms, smart cockpit solutions, intelligent networks, and cloud services.

It particularly emphasized that Huawei possesses technology surpassing Tesla in the fields of intelligent networks and smart cockpit platforms. Huawei rotating chairman Xu Zhijun stated in an interview with a Chinese media outlet at the end of last year, "We can do everything Tesla can do."

It is also reported that the autonomous electric vehicle incorporates technology that links with Huawei's smartphones.

Global Times cited experts saying that drivers can control the autonomous electric vehicle through their smartphones, noting that this feature is a new technology not possessed by Tesla.

Furthermore, this technology is expected to compete with Apple Car in the future, and considering China's consumer market and manufacturing capabilities, Huawei has a strong possibility of surpassing Apple in the autonomous vehicle market.
