Providing USIM·On-site Immediate Activation Support
Self-activation Service... Hotline Activation Center Connection
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] To assist elderly and middle-aged customers who face difficulties in activating budget phones, the budget phone exclusive offline promotion center 'Budget Phone Square' will begin on-site customer support services.
The Korea Mobile Virtual Network Operator Association (KMVNO Association) announced on the 8th that from the 12th, the Budget Phone Square, which opened near Seodaemun Station in Seoul last October, will start providing SIM cards and on-site activation support services.
At the existing Budget Phone Square, customers have been supported in comparing and selecting various rate plans considering their mobile phone usage habits. Going forward, considering the demand for on-site activation, the service scope will be expanded to include providing SIM cards and supporting activation.
Although there are differences in methods depending on the operator, places where self-activation is possible will activate immediately, and where self-activation service is not yet available, SIM cards will be provided and a hotline with activation centers will be established to enable quick activation.
A total of 13 companies participate in Budget Phone Square. Seven companies including Kookmin Bank, LG HelloVision, kt M Mobile, SK Telink, Keunsaram, and InscoBee use the self-activation method, while seven companies including KCT (Korea Cable Telecom), Merchand Korea, Sejong Telecom, Winnerstel, Unicoms, and Eyes Vision use the happy call activation method.
Especially, marking the 2nd anniversary of 5G commercialization, as 5G networks have been established in major and small city centers, budget phone rate plans have diversified. Budget phone operators are independently launching various 5G mid- to small-volume budget phone rate plans offering 1.5 to 30GB of data through mandatory 5G wholesale provision and wholesale price reductions.
The association said, "We hope that promoting not only existing 3G and LTE rate plans but also affordable and diverse new 5G rate plans to be released by next month to visitors of Budget Phone Square will serve as an opportunity to expand the use of budget phones."
