Hyundai Motor Group Develops Technologies like Autonomous Driving Based on Data

[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 8th that it has signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Sharing Artificial Intelligence (AI) Training Data' with the National Information Society Agency (NIA). The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Dong-wook, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, Moon Yong-sik, Director of NIA, and others.


NIA, an organization under the Ministry of Science and ICT, is creating AI industry infrastructure by conducting large-scale projects to build AI training data in various fields such as autonomous driving, transportation, environment, and voice as part of the Digital New Deal project.


This agreement aims to establish a utilization system for AI training data in the automotive sector based on mutual cooperation, accelerating the software development of domestic automobile companies and strengthening global competitiveness.


Accordingly, NIA will provide Hyundai Motor Group with various AI training data it has collected, including natural language, road and lane, and human behavior videos. Based on this, Hyundai Motor Group plans to develop AI-based future mobility technologies in various fields such as autonomous driving, infotainment, and robotics.


In particular, through this agreement, Hyundai Motor Group will advance voice recognition technology based on a vast amount of natural language data, including free conversations and dialects. It will also strengthen AI technology competitiveness by utilizing data in various areas such as autonomous driving technology development using road, lane, and crosswalk recognition data.


Kim Dong-wook, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, stated, "Through this agreement, we will advance AI technology, accelerate our transformation into a smart mobility solutions company, and provide new mobility services to customers."


Moon Yong-sik, Director of NIA, also said, "As domestic automobile companies' vehicle software technology continues to make remarkable progress, we will do our best to create a precedent for public-private win-win cooperation through continuous discovery of high-quality training data and quality advancement with active support."
