Economical and Effective Electrolyte Additives... Enhancing Lithium-Ion Battery Efficiency
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Samhwa Paint Industrial Co., Ltd. announced on the 7th that it has obtained a domestic patent for 'Carbonate Compounds Containing Fluorosulfonyl Groups, Their Manufacturing Methods, and Uses.'
Following the development of electrolyte additives for lithium batteries last year, Samhwa Paint has developed a carbonate compound containing fluorosulfonyl groups as a new structure of lithium-ion battery electrolyte additives.
Lithium-ion secondary batteries, which are emerging as the main energy source for electronic devices such as mobile phones and laptops, as well as electric vehicles, require the development of lithium-ion batteries with higher energy, higher power, and greater safety as product technology advances. The most economical and effective method at this time is to use additives in the electrolyte.
This invention developed an economical and efficient new compound that can improve performance by adding a small amount of components without structural replacement of lithium-ion secondary batteries. It exhibits excellent lifespan and storage characteristics and shows high charge-discharge efficiency.
Additionally, the new compound, containing fluorosulfonyl groups, helps form the cathode interface film and is also expected to aid in the formation of the SEI (solid electrolyte interphase) film formed on the anode of secondary batteries.
A representative from Samhwa Paint stated, "The carbonate compound containing fluorosulfonyl groups manufactured according to this invention can be applied not only to lithium-ion secondary battery electrolytes but also to various fields such as pharmaceutical intermediates and organic solvents, and we expect an expansion of the market related to fine chemicals."
