[Asia Economy Reporter Jumi Lee] Amid the People Power Party's landslide victory in the April 7 by-elections, former Open Democratic Party lawmaker Son Hyewon criticized the Democratic Party of Korea, saying, "Let's see who they blame this time."
On the 7th, Son posted on her Facebook, "They acted as if their victory in the general election was due to their own excellence, without the president's help," pointing out the situation.
She also said, "Both tactics and strategy failed. Were they arrogant due to early leads?" and added, "The moment I saw the posters, jumpers, and banners, I felt something was wrong. Was it the Democratic Party or the candidate?"
Son emphasized, "They have only been in office as mayor for just over a year," and argued, "There is enough time for the Democratic Party to get their act together. The people must step up again."
She continued, "I offer my condolences to the 'Kkaesimin' (awakened citizens). You have done nothing wrong. It is all the politicians' fault," and stated, "With one year left until the presidential election, I will fight more fiercely alongside you."
Earlier, in the Seoul mayoral election, People Power Party candidate Oh Sehoon secured 57.5% of the vote, winning by a margin of 18.32 percentage points over Democratic Party candidate Park Youngsun. Oh made significant gains in all 25 autonomous districts of Seoul, receiving nearly 2.8 million votes.
In the Busan mayoral election, People Power Party candidate Park Hyungjoon also achieved a landslide victory, garnering 62.67% of the vote and defeating Democratic Party candidate Kim Youngchun by 28.25 percentage points.
