Anyangcheon Reed Field 3 Overview

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chaehyun Il) will invest a total of 1.5 billion KRW by June this year to create a 7,397㎡ artificial turf soccer field at Anyangcheon Galdae 3 Ground.

Anyangcheon Galdae 3 Ground was a masato (compacted soil) soccer field established in the 1990s, and its facilities had become outdated, resulting in low usage rates. Accordingly, the district secured 450 million KRW in national funds and 412 million KRW in city funds, investing a total of 1.5 billion KRW to build an artificial turf soccer field, which has a lower risk of injury and is highly preferred by residents.

As Yeongdeungpo’s third artificial turf soccer field, Anyangcheon Galdae 3 Ground stands out for the district’s efforts to actively incorporate the enthusiastic opinions of soccer-loving residents during the design process.

First, the stadium size meets international standards with a length of 100m and width of 64m, suitable for hosting official competitions. The artificial turf selected is 55mm in height, reflecting user preferences for lower injury risk, and lighting facilities will be installed to support nighttime sports activities for office workers after work.

Additionally, two lanes of an athletics track will be constructed around the soccer field to enhance space utilization and convenience. Above all, ensuring river safety is prioritized by installing a retractable mesh fence to prevent heavy rain from obstructing water flow.

Moreover, meticulous work will be done to level the ground surface to minimize impacts on drainage, game performance, and injuries.

Once the improvements to Galdae 3 Ground are completed, the ‘Anyangcheon Comprehensive Sports Belt Creation’ project, which has been underway since 2019, will enter its final phase. The district completed a baseball field, park golf course, and artificial turf soccer field (Galdae 2 Ground) by last year and plans to finish constructing a hard court tennis court by April.

Furthermore, the district has accelerated the schedule originally aimed for year-end completion by safely refurbishing bicycle paths and walking trails around the Anyangcheon Comprehensive Sports Belt, improving vehicle traffic flow, creating parking spaces, and upgrading other convenience facilities.

Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Chaehyun Il stated, “We created opportunities for communication with residents to actively reflect their necessary opinions in order to build highly satisfactory facilities,” adding, “We hope that Anyangcheon, which will be newly renovated as a resident-friendly space including the Anyangcheon Comprehensive Sports Belt, waterfront walking trails, and rose garden, will become a healing space for residents tired from social distancing.”
