[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, evaluated the opposition’s victory in the April 7 by-elections as "establishing a bridgehead for regime change."
After watching the congratulatory message from Oh Se-hoon, the elected mayoral candidate of Seoul, just after midnight on the 8th, Ahn shared this thought.
He said, "I sincerely congratulate candidate Oh on his victory," and added, "I also want to sincerely thank the citizens of Seoul who judged the Moon Jae-in administration and supported candidate Oh."
He continued, "I think this is just the beginning," and mentioned, "There are so many tasks ahead of us." Ahn emphasized, "First, if the opposition takes charge of city administration, we must humbly yet competently show this to the citizens," adding, "Only then will the people believe that regime change is a better choice."
He also stressed the need for reorganization of the opposition. Ahn said, "I believe it is more important than anything else for responsible figures in the opposition to innovate, unite, and join forces for regime change."
Meanwhile, after the congratulatory event for candidate Oh’s victory on the same day, Ahn was seen shaking hands with Kim Jong-in, leader of the People Power Party, with whom he had conflicts during the unification process.
