Kim Se-yong, President of SH Corporation, to Retire on Seoul Mayoral Election Day

Kim Se-yong, President of SH Corporation, to Retire on Seoul Mayoral Election Day Kim Se-yong, President of SH Corporation

[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] Kim Seyong, president of Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH Corporation), will hold a retirement ceremony on the 7th and step down from his position. It has been 3 years and 3 months since he took office in January 2018.

His official term ended on December 31 of last year, but due to the absence of former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, the process of appointing a new president could not proceed, so he has been performing duties as acting president. Kim, who submitted his resignation earlier this month, plans to return to his original position as a professor in the Department of Architecture at Korea University after retirement.

Kim was previously nominated as the president of Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), which is currently vacant, but he failed to pass the candidate verification stage due to controversy over his history of owning multiple houses and was dropped.

During his 3 years in office, Kim focused on increasing housing supply in Seoul in line with the government's housing supply policy. A total of 55,000 households were supplied during his tenure.

He was the first to introduce age-specific branding for public rental housing to improve its image, and a major achievement was identifying preference points by household type and applying them to housing.

He also realized "spatial welfare" by improving apartment environments that were over 20 years old, and incorporated ideas from young people to transform neglected semi-basements into community spaces.

After Kim's retirement, Hwang Sang-ha, head of the Management Support Headquarters, will serve as acting president until a new president is appointed. SH Corporation plans to form an executive recommendation committee soon and announce the recruitment of a new president. The committee will recommend two candidates to the new Seoul mayor, who will appoint one of them.
